Ever wonder if that renal toxicity patient is anuric when it's not possible to pass a urinary catheter, or if that acute abdomen case has free abdominal air? What about generalized ileus in anorexic regurgitating post-operative patient? Ever struggle with determining the cause of dyspnea in the patient that is too unstable to take radiographs (cardiac, respiratory, pleural space)? Should you discontinue IV fluids in patients with mild tachypnea? These are all questions veterinary point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is designed to help answer! This 4-hour workshop, developed and delivered by members of the veterinary emergency and critical care ultrasound (VECCUS) group, considered leaders in the field of veterinary POCUS, will build on a series of lectures which are a prerequisite to the workshop. Through practical, hands-on training on live dogs and cadavers’ participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice all of the common veterinary POCUS techniques currently used to assess the abdomen, pleural space, lung, heart and vascular systems, and apply these techniques to identify pre-determined pathology in cadavers. These are all practical techniques developed by the instructors to facilitate the use of POCUS in everyday veterinary practice.
