Description

We are taught that if you can see B-lines and/or “lung sliding" (aka the glide sign) you can rule out pneumothorax. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE! Visible B-lines and lung sliding can rule in pneumothorax! It's not the lung ultrasound protocol that detects pleural space and lung pathology, but knowing what to look for, where to look for it, and most importantly, how to interpret it! This lecture will define normal lung sliding and B-lines, discuss the etiology of increased B-lines, and then use video clips and cases to demonstrate how B-lines and lung sliding can both rule in and rule out pneumothorax depending on how it's interpreted.
